Stand & Deliver — Helping Young Adults Achieve Dreams

Nicole Thompson, a graduate of the Stand & Deliver program, moved the New Jersey National Speakers Association Chapter with her poem entitled “Newark”. “Newark is the taste of burnt hot dogs and sweet lemonade on a sunny day,” Nicole began. “It is the sound of screaming babies, being carried by babies, on the way to the welfare line.”

Nicole addressed the New Jersey National Speakers Association (NSA-NJ) chapter December meeting, demonstrating the powerful speaking and writing skills that she developed as a participant in the Stand & Deliver program.

“Her presentation touched each of us, stealing our hearts, inspiring our spirit, and bringing us to our feet for a standing ovation!” said Lorrette Prudent, NSA-NJ Chapter President.

The NSA-NJ Board of Directors announced that they are working to raise $1,500 for a NSA-NJ Stand & Deliver Scholarship Fund that will be awarded at the May 10, 2011  Night of Eloquence celebrating the honorees of the program.
